"Every great and deep difficulty bears in itself its own solution.
It forces us to change our thinking in order to find it."
Niels Bohr - Danish Physicist
If you find yourself responding to the activity at your dealership instead of dictating it, you're not alone.
It has nothing to do with your dedication as an owner or the quality of your people. Marine dealerships are complicated and the tools and resources that should keep them running smoothly were created for other industries.
The problem is our size; as an industry we are too small to attract specialized professionals or software built to handle our unique needs. It is not going to change anytime soon. Your task as an owner is to get resourceful.
Don't just take the next step, plan on taking several and I'll walk you through them,
one at a time.
The best performing dealerships have the time, expertise and manpower they need to adjust goals and realign operations to achieve them, when they want to. They’re not smarter, faster, better looking or more experienced. They’re just resourceful. The elite find the help they need when they need it, they get the most out of their careful planning and they spend more time doing what they do best.
Structure – Know Your Risk & Own Your Opportunities
The marine industry is full of owner/operators who have gotten by without access to the resources they need. In good conditions this may work, but there is a long-term consequence. The longer a dealership operates without a structure the less they know about the risks they face and the less likely they are to benefit from their next opportunity. Surviving is not the same thing as thriving. As conditions change unstructured dealerships begin to encounter obstacles they couldn’t see coming. When an owner/operator’s day is spent navigating these obstacles there is little time for anything else.
Nobody plans on their business being inflexible, but this is how it happens. Resources, such as time, get stretched thin. Inflexibility is more than momentary discomfort, it is the threat to your livelihood that sleeps on your desk.
Call and find out how VAS can help you structure your dealership around your short - and long-term goals. If you’re still reading this, it’s probably because you are resourceful.
